I painted this work as a response to a long visit to Ireland, my husband’s home country. The painting was begun in a small back garden studio I rented from family. I finished it when I returned to our previous home in Santa Barbara.
This painting reminds me of the bright glints of light and incredible colors of the landscape after a hard rain. When the sun comes flooding out through the parting dark clouds the scene can be enexpected.

About my process…
I create these paintings using a mixture of oil paint and wax. I utilize other drawing materials throughout the process, melding the drawing, mark-making process with painting.
The finished painting is created through many layers and often take months to finish. The process of layering, scraping and digging back through those layers gives the painting incredible history that is brought up to the surface in part due to the wax mixture itself.
The painting tells a story through the individual movements of my hands, color choices and mood of the finished work. These pieces are a joyful mix of planning and letting go until the final work is brought together in harmony or intended discord.
