Greener Grass 23.5" x 31.5"
After we sold our house in Los Angeles in 2018 it took us my years to decide where to put down roots again. We lived in our RV for three years, tried the Santa Barbara area, thought about Ireland, moved to the Oregon coast and then back to soCal again. In 2024 we set down roots in the mountains outside Santa Cruz. We didn’t know anyone here, didn’t have any family within a full days drive. It’s over two years later and we’re raising our son here, have made good friends and are building a life here. The grass is plenty green right here. It’s home now and we love i
I created this painting over the summer months while spending time in Ireland and Santa Barbara. This series explores themes of home, our experience of ‘place’ and transition.
23.5”h x 31.5”w, oil & cold wax on cradled wood panel (unframed).

I create these paintings using a mixture of oil paint and wax. I utilize other drawing materials throughout the process, melding the drawing, mark-making process with painting.
The finished painting is created through many layers and often take months to finish. The process of layering, scraping and digging back through those layers gives the painting incredible history that is brought up to the surface in part due to the wax mixture itself.
The painting tells a story through the individual movements of my hands, color choices and mood of the finished work. These pieces are a joyful mix of planning and letting go until the final work is brought together in harmony or intended discord.
