Magic Memories 48" x 60"
Magic Memories 48" x 60"
It’s like a memory jar in a painting. Memories of a trip so special you don’t ever want to forget it. The place, the people, the food, the views… all came together. You explored and laughed and relished the company.
I added neon paint to this painting. It flouresces under blacklight. The “memory jar” in the upper right of the painting will hold all your special memories because that’s what I painted it to do;)
Magic Memories was part of my solo show, Visceral Views. This body of work explores the immediate emotional reaction to the wild places and grand vistas of the western United States.
48”h x 60”w, oil & cold wax on cradled wood panel (unframed).

I create these paintings using a mixture of oil paint and wax. I utilize other drawing materials throughout the process, melding the drawing, mark-making process with painting.
The finished painting is created through many layers and often take months to finish. The process of layering, scraping and digging back through those layers gives the painting incredible history that is brought up to the surface in part due to the wax mixture itself.
The painting tells a story through the individual movements of my hands, color choices and mood of the finished work. These pieces are a joyful mix of planning and letting go until the final work is brought together in harmony or intended discord.
